What I love about the custom process is collaborating with clients to develop new and exciting ideas that translate into incredible pieces of jewellery.

My specialty if I had to pick one would be custom engagement and wedding rings. I also works with clients to make gifts for birthdays, anniversaries and bridal parties as well as gifts to commemorate the birth of a baby. Another popular request is re-vamping an old piece of jewellery to make it wearable again.

Whatever the occasion, being able to get your communicate clearly is really important since it is those ideas that shape the piece being commissioned. If you are just starting your search to find the right design then try to be open and aware of what it is that inspires you. What are you drawn to? Make a few notes about metal colour, type of stone if any and a possible budget. If you are inclined draw some rough sketches or collect some images to help get your ideas across.

Something I also feel strongly about is being able to re-use clients’ old metal and gemstones where possible. Many clients have old pieces that have been passed down to them or have pieces of jewellery that are not wearable in their current state. The metal and or gemstones can be re-used to make a piece of jewellery that is meaningful and original.

The custom process should be something fun and memorable. This is jewellery after all so remember to try and have some fun with it! Click on the images to the left to see examples of my custom work.

Betty's Ring

Betty loved the emerald cut and loved the way
I tend to set them - going lengthwise. She also
loved the halo effect of small diamonds around
a centre stone to give it that hint of antique.

What we created was that perfect blend of new
and old and surpassed her expectations of what
even she had imagined for her own ring.

It was her perfect ring!

Danielle's Freedom Ring

Danielle wanted to commemorate a special time in
her life by re-modelling one of her favourite pieces of
costume jewellery only she wanted it to be "real".

Re-using her old gold and her Freedom Ring was born.

Mixed karats of old yellow gold.

Engagement Ring Pendant

Derek wanted to create an beautiful engagement ring
using a diamond he had inherited. He also knew that
his girlfriend's work prohibited her from being able
to wear a ring regularly so we decided to make a
pendant inspired by an engagement ring.

After seeing a linear pendant I had created where
the thickness changes along the length after a 1/4
turn he knew that he wanted to have something
like that happening in his pendant.

I loved making this pendant that carried the same
importance as a typical engagement ring!

Archie's Pinkie Ring

Archie wanted a pinkie ring but also wanted
to incorporate the fact he achieved not one
but 2 hole-in-ones.

The lapis was hand cut and inlaid into the
ring and the star set diamonds were the
perfect way to express his achievement
on the links.

Cork Key Chain

The bottle of wine this cork came from had
a special meaning for my client who in turn
wanted to use the cork to create a gift to
give to a friend.

I fashioned it into this key chain using
leather and a Sterling Silver key ring to
create a meaningful keepsake.

Barnacle Diamond Pinkie Ring

The idea for this ring came from the ocean.
Jess wanted to create something that was
rough, organic and felt like a barnacle.

We used diamonds from several engagement
& wedding sets that she inherited
and set them in tubes over a bumpy
surface.

It was a blast to create!

Brie's Rough Diamond Ring

Brie loved my rough diamond rings but wanted
to do something just a bit different. She
wanted to embed them instead of set them in
a faux tension setting like I normally do.

So with these solid diamond cubes I carved
out indentations for each as well as set
them with claws. It made for a amazing
ring that was truly a one-of-a-kind!

Megan's Canadian Diamond Pendant

A client came to me with some incredible
Canadian diamonds from the Diavik mine
and wanted to create a special pendant.

I felt the diamonds would be best shown
spread apart letting each one stand
alone but still be part of the set.

These beautiful diamonds were amazing
with work with and I loved the final
piece...and so did she!

Ellen's Engagement Ring

Ellen loved a few of my designs and felt
the way to get the ring of her dreams
was to combine them.

My wave edge, studded and off side rings
made the cut. Using her diamonds we
added a punch of colour with some
rubies and pink sapphires.

Safina's Remodelled Ring

Safina always felt that her rings were
beautiful but really wanted the amethysts
in her wedding band to encircle her
engagement diamond, which before
did not.

Taking the diamond from engagement
ring and the amethysts from her
wedding band I combined the rings,
creating a single ring, with a halo
of amethysts around the diamond.

For her, it was now perfect!

FIshing Lure Pendant

Elaine had a pair of her Dad's cuff links (see 2nd
pic) and wanted to turn them into something she
could wear more often.

After seeing how fun these links were I
suggested doing something equally fun and
we combined it with one of my small Tiger
Ebony Wood pendants.

She loved how playful the cuff links still
were and now she could wear this pendant
and think of her Dad often.  The second link
was made into a charm for her bracelet.

Topaz Brooch

Michael had these crazy stones that he
wanted made into a brooch.  He wanted it to
be all about the stones with minimal metal
supporting the stones.

The goal was to have his brooch be the
centre of attention while he was
wearing it.  And that is exactly
what it does.

Michelle's Ring

This Tanzanite that was presented to Michelle for
her for her birthday.  Along with it came three
drawings to choose from when it came time
to make her ring.

It was really great to have her involved in
the ring's creation and for her to have
exactly the ring she wanted.

The Wedding Shell

Ashley commissioned me to make a shell with an
engraved message inside for her parent's up-
coming Cape Cod beach wedding.

From my own collection of shells I chose
the best one and made a mold of it and
cast it in sterling silver.

They were so touched by the sentiment!

Life as a Pendant

Recently I had the pleasure of working with Canadian
Country Music star Aaron Pritchett to collaborate
and create a piece of jewellery that encompased
the meaning of home, family and community.

The circular shape of this pendant represents life
and it's a never ending ride and if you look deep
enough you will always find the bright spots,
represented here by the White Sappires.

The pendant was made to be imperfect in places
beause as in life not everything goes according
to plan.

Our pendant raised $500 for The Red Door Family Shelter.

Multi-Stone Pendant

I created this pendant after seeing the beautiful stones
my client Angela had collected.  Trying to find a way
that they could all relate to one another I presented
her with sketches of variations on this theme.

Their shapes and tones worked really together so I
wanted to keep them close but also let them do
their own thing.

She wears it often... it reminders of her journey.

Pave Bands

My client came with old jewellery in hand for me
to Re-Jewel into something new and up-to-date.
These bands were created with my client's old
gold & diamonds and made into a pair of rings
that could be worn on either side of her
engagement ring.

With all the diamonds being the same size
we decided to go for the old-style look of
pave for the setting.  And a few weeks
later these rings were born from
something previously loved.

Jacline's Ring

This ring was created as a way to enhance Jacline's
wedding band and in the process incorporate a ring
that was dear to her - her Father's Wedding band.

I melted her Dad's band down and drew it into
the wire for the outer rings.  She loved my
Triple Wave Band so we decided to make her
her own version.

Fossilized Dinosaur Bone Pendant & Links

This was an unusual request for sure.  I was to use
these fossilized dinosaur bones to make a pendant
for her and cuff links for him.  My client gave
me free reign to come up with a design where I
could do anything I wanted - with a word of
caution - 'She is picky'.

In my usual way I wanted to let the materials
speeak for themselves using minimal metal to
create a design as strong as the bones I was
using.  We all loved the pieces and I did
hear that she wears the pendant often.

Brian & Melanie's Wedding Set

Brian designed these bands and came to me to
bring them to life.  His designs were very much
about perfections and symmetry and that isn't
easy to execute.

I love a challenge so with all my jewellery
skills and knowledge they turned out
beautifully!

Ray's Labradorite Ring

Ray had this amazing piece of Labradorite from
recent trip.  A ring was to be made and the
Labradorite set into it.  We talked about
the design for the ring and wanted the
stone to be very prominent.

Once we finalized the design I had the
Labradorite cut to fit into Ray's ring.

Mixed Metal Diamond Rings

The idea for these rings was that the client's old
yellow gold would be present in both rings but not
be made of yellow gold.  I created the bands with
14k Palladium White Gold and cut out the sections
to be replaced with the re-cycled gold.

To make the rings more special we added bling
to the rings.

Leigh's Engagement Ring

Created for Leigh whose new engagement ring brought her to tears. She was unhappy with the craftsmanship of the ring so it was re-designed using her existing diamonds. This time she cried because she loved it!

Rebecca's Ring

Chris & Rebecca loved the tradition of the
solitaire but wanted a more modern version
for her.  Based on one of my designs we
changed the angle of the setting and
scaled down the band.

Together we came up with a ring that
reflected the sense and style that
is Rebecca.

Vanessa's 3-Stone Ring

Vanessa was very specific (in a good way) about what
she wanted in her engagment ring.  Three diamonds,
modern, beautiful and something made just for her.

A week or so later I presented her with a wax
model of a design that she felt I plucked right
from her heart

She LOVED it!

Shauna's 3-Stone Ring

For this ring I worked with my client and his three
gorgeous diamonds to create this ring inspired by
my Split Diamond Ring.

The centre diamond was 1ct. and was quite big for
my plans let alone putting 1/2ct. side diamonds
into the mix.  Could this design handle that
much bling?

Yes was the answer - it worked and exceeded
my own expectations.  Not only did it work
it was a total surprise!

Cyndi's Ring

This ring is one of my favourites.  Based on my
own engagement ring and pave wedding band Cyndi
wanted a way to get both the looks in one band.

Using her Grandmother's ring and brooch for
the source of the diamonds I designed this
ring that incorporated the elemnts she
loved into a single ring.
